Hippocrates Revisited: A Collection of Personal Student Oaths
Edited by Jo Marie Reilly, Helena Yu, Allan S. Lichtman, Rosemary R. Lichtman
Each fall, first year medical students recite the traditional Hippocratic Oath, a promise of their commitment to the field of medicine. This ritual serves to highlight their acceptance of the personal responsibilities expected of them as they begin their training. At the Keck School of Medicine of USC, students are asked to write their own versions of the Oath. These individual oaths offer a deeper reflection on the unique path they will chart for themselves as physicians.
Hippocrates Revisited: A Collection of Personal Student Oaths chronicles the belief, hope and vision of these young student physicians as they begin their journey. It reflects the diverse narrative that each brings to the face of healing, their callings to medicine and vows to their new career.
